Counseling Center FAQs

Children who have experienced traumatic or stressful events often need help from a therapist to learn how to navigate through these big feelings in a safe environment, increase their emotional literacy, and develop healthy skills to thrive. Therapy can help children overcome traumatic experiences ranging from a car accident to physical abuse.

This is not just a challenging time for children, but can be for caregivers as well. We also work alongside parents and caregivers to provide therapeutic interventions, so that they can practice at home the skills they learn from the therapist.

Everyone can benefit from therapy, so we encourage you to reach out if you think therapy could be a helpful resource for your child.

Our counseling center specializes in serving children ages one to eight, and we work with families from throughout the Kansas City metro area.

You will be met with acceptance and compassion. The first session will be a meeting between caregivers and your child’s therapist, and we will use an intake questionnaire to explore your concerns and reasons for seeking out therapy. Based on this questionnaire, your child’s therapist will recommend either family or individual sessions to gather more information. Then together with your family, the therapist will develop a treatment plan that is unique to your child and your family’s needs.

Our therapists are highly-trained and equipped to help guide you toward the therapy that is the best fit for your child. We are trained to offer Play Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused / Abuse-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Learn more about these therapeutic modalities here.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to pursue therapy for your child, so we offer appointments both during standard business hours and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
