Teachers Score High on CLASS Assessment

We always knew that our educators were top-notch, but with our recent round of the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) scores, we can prove it! CLASS is a third-party teaching assessment that evaluates the quality of teaching through the lens of interaction between a teacher and child, particularly the interactions that matter most for children’s educational outcomes.

Due to the intensity of this program, our teachers are being evaluated in small groups. We have now had two groups of teachers complete the program—11 teachers in total—and the scores are exceptional. Several individual teachers received scores in the emotional and behavioral support category that our observers indicated they had rarely seen before. Congratulations to Luke Evjen, Grace Gawatz and Alex Hungate, who all received extremely high scores!

While The Children’s Place is first and foremost a mental health treatment facility, our Day Treatment’s education program is extremely intentionally designed to help prepare children for kindergarten and beyond, with our talented educators at the helm.

The CLASS program is a rigorous commitment for our teachers, as it involves a pre-assessment, evening and weekend classes then a post-assessment to evaluate how scores have changed. During the assessments, the observer evaluates one teacher at a time and considers how they interact with children in their classroom, including the volume of their voice, what they are saying to children, how they navigate transitions and more.

Congratulations to our amazing teachers on these impressive scores!
