2024 Volunteer of the Year

Steve Callahan

Steve Callahan

Steve Callahan retired from his role as our Vice President of Finance & Operations in 2021, but he couldn’t stay away for long. Steve now volunteers in our Blue Butterflies classroom weekly, helping push the toddler stroller through our hallways, push little ones on swings, read stories in the classroom and so much more.

Steve started his career working as a lawyer for 15 years before moving to the nonprofit sector, eventually working at The Children’s Place for seven years.

“I love every moment volunteering at The Children’s Place,” Steve said. “It feels amazing when the children see me and are genuinely happy to see me.”

Steve has been a reliable volunteer in our youngest classroom of infants and toddlers ages two and younger, providing dependable help and building relationships with the children.

“Mr. Steve is the unofficial grandpa of The Children’s Place,” said Debbie Tusher, the lead teacher of the Blue Butterflies classroom. “From the youngest Blue Butterfly to the oldest Purple Panda, Mr. Steve never hesitates to fulfill the mission of The Children’s Place, ‘To heal life’s deepest hurts’ through his playfulness and endless supply of hugs. We are so grateful to have Mr. Steve in our classroom!”

Steve will be recognized at the Gratitude Bruncheon on Thursday, June 6. Learn more about our other honorees who will be celebrated at the Gratitude Bruncheon here.

Strategic Plan

The start of the new year brought upon the official launch of our new strategic plan, a comprehensive vision shaped by the many voices of caregivers, staff, community volunteers, donors and funders. Formally approved by our Board of Directors last fall, this plan will guide the actions of The Children’s Place over the coming years in accordance with our mission and vision.
