Moriah Jarrett

A perseverant advocate in a sometimes challenging system, Moriah Jarrett, Alternative Care Specialist at the Jackson County Children’s Division, has consistently stepped forward as a bridge between the Division and The Children’s Place. She routinely goes above and beyond for the children we serve who are in state custody, even attending care conferences to meet the entire team of teachers and therapists working with each child and to determine how best to serve that specific child.

“Moriah is such a valuable advocate for The Children’s Place and the families we serve,” said Dawn Downes, Vice President of Program Administration. “Her relentless compassion and concern about the safety and well-being of the children and families we serve is such an asset to our team. She sees the children and families in care as people, not cases, and works tirelessly for the best possible outcome for each individual child.”

Moriah has continued through her career at the Children’s Division, and her knowledge of this complex and evolving system helps The Children’s Place team navigate any challenges that pop up.

“As my roles at the Children’s Division progressed, I learned more and more of the positive impact that The Children’s Place on the children that I worked with, whether directly, through Day Treatment and therapeutic services, or more indirectly through recommendations provided in developmental assessments,” Moriah said. “Once I was lucky enough to begin my role as the liaison with The Children’s Place, I had a whole new understanding of the ins and outs of the teams that worked with each and every child and family that walks through the doors. I’m in awe of the work done there every day.”

Moriah told us that one of her favorite memories of working with The Children’s Place was when she first toured our new building, which we moved into in fall of 2020. After years of meeting for care conferences in a tiny room in an outdated building, she visited our new building and saw the expanded classrooms, increased therapy offices and more. “The Children’s Place was finally in a location that matched the work they were doing!” she told us.

Moriah will be recognized at the Gratitude Bruncheon on Thursday, June 6. Learn more about our other honorees who will be celebrated at the Gratitude Bruncheon here.
