2023 Community Impact Award

Katherine Ellis, Jenny Kim & Kathy Schirger

Not only has this trio of volunteers had a profound impact for years on our Angel Board, but Katherine Ellis, Jenny Kim and Kathy Schirger have also taken the lead with our Teen Board, ensuring that our board of high school students have a valuable experience and learn about the interworkings of a nonprofit.

Katherine, Jenny and Kathy have helped coordinate communication with the Teen Board, helped facilitate multiple food drives to support our food pantry, and so much more. As Angel Board members, they have helped build the Party for The Place event, securing impressive auction items, recruiting additional supporters and getting their hands dirty helping with setup, decorating and more. Not only all this, but these three ladies have also gone out of their way to ensure that the staff of The Children’s Place is shown appreciation and care by bringing in lunches for the team, delivering surprise snacks and more.

“I remember vividly when Jenny, Kathy, and Katherine stepped up to oversee the Teen Board,” said Polly Howard, Vice President of Development & Communications. “They said they would love to do so and committed to a timeframe longer than almost any other volunteer role we have had at The Children’s Place. That shows the dedication and passion these three have for this organization. We are so fortunate to have each of these women pour their hearts and minds into the work at the agency. It is such a fantastic feeling to know the support they lend not only to the children and families we serve, but to the staff as well.”

The passion and dedication these leaders and volunteers have shown over the years has not only inspired the Teen Board but had a true impact on the children and families we serve.

“The Children’s Place is like no other organization I have been a part of before,” Kathy told us. “The teachers and staff are incredibly focused on making a better life for the children. They are a true family.”

Katherine, Jenny and Kathy will be recognized at the Gratitude Bruncheon on Wednesday, August 30. Learn more about our other honorees who will be celebrated at the Gratitude Bruncheon here.
