2025 Legacy Award – Don & Patty Kincaid

Don and Patty Kincaid

Patty and Don Kincaid had no idea that when they accepted a simple invitation to tour The Children’s Place that it would be the beginning of a 15-year relationship. Curious to see where their daughter Kelly had begun working as a Child & Family Therapist, initially, they were there to support her career. But their reasons changed as they walked through the building and heard the stories and saw the work that was being accomplished.

Recognizing the importance of young children’s mental health, Patty and Don began supporting The Children’s Place as a family and have continued to leverage their personal connections to make an even bigger impact for children and families in Kansas City.

Patty and Don graciously agreed to serve as Chairs of the Chiefs Charity Games from 2015 to 2017, which raised over $2.3 million for The Children’s Place over a three-year period and provided the foundational funding to launch our Power of Place campaign which ultimately raised 12 million dollars for a new building. We quickly saw that their competitive nature could rival the Chiefs, as Patty and Don worked to ensure that we broke the record for the most funds raised at a Chiefs Charity Game and then made sure we broke our record year after year!

“Patty and Don’s generosity has had such a profound impact on The Children’s Place,” said President & CEO Ann Thomas. “Originally compelled by a passion for young children’s mental health, the Kincaids have become loyal friends who give of their time and resources while also encouraging their friends and family to join the movement.”

Don and Patty Kincaid at Party for The PlacePatty and Don were eager to step forward as Honorary Chairs of Party for The Place: Bloom, taking place in 2024, where their competitive streak reemerged and their helped raise a record-breaking $672,000+ for The Children’s Place.

Local leaders in the bus transportation industry, the Kincaids have played a key role in helping us navigate transportation costs for one of our largest expenses as an agency. They helped surprise the staff by arranging for a large charter bus to take everyone to see what would eventually become our new building. In recognition of their years of generosity and dedication to The Children’s Place, the Kincaid family is honored at the bus entrance of The Children’s Place, with a large image of a bus hand-drawn by one of the Kincaids’ fifteen grandchildren.

“The Kincaid family carries a remarkable legacy of philanthropy and generosity to The Children’s Place,” Ann said. “It’s unbelievable to think of the impact Patty and Don have had on this agency, which in turn allows us to do the important healing work for so many children and families in our community. We are forever grateful for their example of leadership and giving.”

The Legacy Award was awarded at the Gratitude Bruncheon on June 5. Meet the other honorees of Gratitude Bruncheon 2025 here.
