2025 Advocate for Hope – Paul Schieber

Paul Shieber - Advocate for Hope

Six years on the Board of Directors was not enough for Paul Schieber, who now spends his “retirement” from T-Mobile working part-time as our Chief Financial Officer, while donating generous portions of his salary back to support The Children’s Place. Paul has been an integral part of our leadership team for over three years by providing invaluable insights and guidance to help shape the future of the agency.

He continues to advocate, support, and fundraise for The Children’s Place, using his enthusiasm and connections to raise awareness for the agency, including stepping forward with his sister Sarah Wilmes as Tastemakers last year, raising more than $7,000 for The Children’s Place.

“Paul has been such an integral part of The Children’s Place over the last decade,” said Ann Thomas, President & CEO. “His generosity, financial acumen and sense of humor have all had a lasting impact on our team along with the children and families we serve.”

Beyond sharing his finance and leadership skills with The Children’s Place, Paul can often be found picking up every piece of trash he encounters on the walk from his car to our building. He also is quick to volunteer with any tasks that need to be done, from rebuilding a retractable sign, mopping up overflowing water, to setting up the event space before Taste at The Place.

Paul’s commitment to The Children’s Place is inspired by his family. During Monday morning leadership meetings, he is quick to pull out his phone and show pictures of the latest haircut, dance move or other activities of his grandchildren.  Paul is equally quick to interrupt this same meeting and pull open the door to greet the stroller full of young children who might be walking by the conference room. As Paul would say, “to be perfectly clear” he prefers to engage with children over adults.

We surprised Paul with the Advocate for Hope Award at last week’s Gratitude Bruncheon, knowing that he would never allow us to honor him if he knew about it in advance. His wife along with a number of his children and grandchildren were able to join us to watch him receive this honor.

Thank you to Paul for all that he does for The Children’s Place!

The Advocate for Hope Award was awarded at the Gratitude Bruncheon on June 5. Meet the other honorees of Gratitude Bruncheon 2025 here.
